# Splitting a Bill

> Divide one table's order into separate checks

## When to split a bill

Use this when guests at the same table want to pay separately.

## How to split

1. Open the table.
2. Tap **Split Bill**.
3. Assign each item to a separate check (Bill 1, Bill 2, etc.) — you can split by item or by even amounts, depending on what your location supports.
4. Confirm the split.

Each split bill can now be **settled independently** — one guest can pay while the rest of the table continues.

## Settling split bills

Once split, each bill shows separately in the cart. Tap into each one and follow the normal [settling a bill](/pos-app/payments/settling-a-bill) steps.

<Tip>
  If a table has multiple unsettled bills, the table stays **Occupied** until every bill on it has been settled.
