# Using the Kitchen Display (KDS)

> How kitchen staff track and complete tickets

## Overview

The Kitchen Display System (KDS) shows incoming orders in real time as they're sent from the POS, organized by ticket.

## Reading a ticket

Each ticket shows:

* Table number or order reference
* Items and quantities
* Any modifiers or special notes
* Time since the ticket was sent

## Marking items ready

1. Tap an item once it's prepared.
2. It's marked as **ready/done** on the ticket.
3. Once every item on a ticket is marked ready, the whole ticket can be completed.

## Voided or comped items

If a cashier voids, comps, or gifts an item after it's already on the kitchen screen, it updates automatically — voided items are shown with a strike-through or void indicator so kitchen staff know not to prepare them.

<Note>
  Settling the bill at the POS does **not** automatically clear the ticket from the KDS — kitchen staff still need to mark items ready/complete on the KDS itself. This keeps kitchen workflow independent of front-of-house payment timing.
</Note>

## Multiple rounds

If more items are added to a table after the first send, they appear as a **new round** on the same ticket rather than a separate one — making it easy to see what was ordered first versus what came later.
